The second housefire on my street, in the past week happened three doors down, yesterday. It was an older, though not as old as mine, house; and the fore a few days ago was at a 30 year old McMansion about a quarter mile away. The younger house is salvageable; I'm not so sure about the older. I'm sure the wiring is as old; that's always a concern.

Both fires drew several different fire departments; literally six fire trucks. I know not why, there was a full-size truck from thew suburb of Brooklyn sitting in front of my drive, which is 300? 350? feet away. I thought it cost a fortune every time one of those left the station; if they thought they needed personnel, why not load them in an SUV? But, I'd rather have too much than not enough.

Sobering thing to watch.

If, you're into maps, if the link works, the houses that caught fire are 18450 Fowles (we're 18254) and 18880 Mallard - close enough to my street. how they ever got in, or out six trucks in that cull-de-sac, I don't know.

Giving up and typing with my finger. It's been so incredibly cold.

This is scary! Any more information on the causes? I made one try at the maps but Google tried to make me sign in AGAIN even though it clearly already knew who I was.

Domestic fires in my neighborhood are more often than not due to grow houses.

More elsewhere when I can type.

This comment did not show up in my inbox (maybe because it was a reply to your previous comment, not one of mine).

I was going to say yes, it's a huge metro area, but up until the Hayward explosion I don't remember hearing about one here, also a very large urban area. The last one I remember hearing about was in CT when I lived there, like 40 years ago!

I can't believe that link! I think the horrific Pennsylvania nursing home explosion occurred since we started discussing this.
