Sandusky County Courthouse, Fremont Ohio.
original 1840, expanded 1930.

The original courthouse dating to 1840, was the center recessed section. Then it was expanded and aggrandized in the first years of The Great Depression. In 1930 the population of Sandusky Co. was over 13,000; making this seem to be a large structure for their needs. Sandusky Co. is some 30 or 40 miles away from the city of Sandusky which lies on Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie. It's a fun name to say so why not use it?

I'm pushing my archictecual expertise, but the cupola appears, to me, to be original, it has a late Federal period look, which might still have been in use in Western Ohio in the 1840's

Looks like my camera battery had gone bad in both cameras. Most of the shots i took are un-viewable. That's, to say the least, disappointing!

I did do some look ups and found a great short article on the Newark Earthworks, along with a 360' panoramic shot inside the Earthworks - note the moonrise.http://www.archaeology.org/online/features/hopewell/

Also a couple postcards i bought, showing the Earthworks over head. The snow covered bottom, shot is where 'harry and i were. The upper card shows the earthworks that have the golf course in it.

The panoramic shot was taken in the top cards location.

Newark is also a county seat and the courthouse pictures i took didn't come out either. I had a conversation with an old man sitting on a bench by the courthouse. "Why does everyone come and take pictures of this place?"

"Because it's beautiful, look at the detail along the roof."

We went back and forth for awhile, along this line. Sure enough, when 'harry and i drove off, we saw another couple taking pictures of the courthouse.
