59 degrees at 3:30; unquestionably the season has turned. It's raining again too; I have cranberry beans trying to ripen and dry without molding on the plant.
I have three fat quart bags in the freezer full of green beans. My hopes for the 12 foot high field corn is that the few ears that have formed will ripen without deer devouring them.
Already I'm thinking what I haven't accomplished this summer or will, this year.
It went fast.
I saw an article that we are going to have a third La Nina in a row; for us it's been milder, wetter winters with a few blasts of intense winter storms it really only snowed three times of any consequence last winter; each time leaving a foot or more of snow on the ground.
The year before had a horrific, not quite ice storm but a session of very heavy snow that took down trees and wires.
The feral cat is still around, grayer than before. I have plans for a new shelter inside the barn. It broke my heart to see her crossing through foot deep snow from wherever she was living to get food. But she's a cat and no matter what I build for her she'll do what she wants.
