Woodland Cemetery:

Sec 59 Lot - Tier 3-1/2 Grave 31

My great, great, grand father August was buried in 1907, somewhere within a stones throw of this spot. Cause of death suicide. My brother and i could not find the exact location, many headstones are gone or subsumed into the earth; or maybe no one could afford a stone.

Woodland is old, it's first burial dates to 1853; so old, the vandals don't even seem to think it's worth their while. I guess, you can still be buried here too, along with the other 87000+ residents already "in", most of whom have been here for a century.

That cemetery is like the one I took photos of. I am trying to find a way of posting them that is not disrespectful. There were a lot of Augusts then, too, and an Augusta. How do you know he committed suicide and do you know why? Sorry for being nosey, but sometimes it is helpful to find what is in our genes. I am sorry you lost your great- grandfather this way but it is wonderful to find the cemetery he is in.

I don't think it's at all disrespectful to show pictures of cemeteries, the whole point is rememberance.

I have Augusts and Augustas too! His first wife was Gottliebe, she died around 1898, then he married his landlady - Gottlieba in 1899 and she died with in a year.
I obtained a copy of his death cerificate; he ingested phosphorus on the day my grandfather, his grandson was born. I think in the same house.

Lots of tragedy.
