Our phone and internet never went back on. We called and reported the situation and after convincing the phone person that repeatedly turning the router on and off would not restore service, a service call was scheduled for yesterday between 7 AM and noon - nine or ten days later! I got a little sleep early and then waited until noon and went to bed. Around 2 the repair guy called and said he was ready to come over but I'd already lost my days sleep and 11 days after our lines stopped working we dropped AT&T or AT&T had already dropped us?
I really hate getting sentimental about large corporations but this would have never happened with the old AT&T. Wait ten days for a service call!? That's insane. They are so big they do not care if they slough off 1,000 customers this month because the other services are doing the same thing. We've had the same phone number for more than 30 years and now we're done.
We switched to a T-mobile home hotspot and it is working fine so far. #1daughter has been running her class all week with no delays. It's less expensive, so we'll see.

Totally outrageous and... not totally surprising? I only know I've waited days and days for service in the past ten years. We've had at least three outages (this is old-fashioned phone only) because of rain, because they don't-- as they informed me-- maintain the lines anymore.

We've made internet an indispensable utility without providing any kind of infrastructure to ensure access.

I don't think it's sentimental to say that we've experienced a major shift in ethics and business models, and the idea of any kind of public trust has gone out the window. It's not just true of AT&T, but everything: have you seen how banks operate these days? And I can hardly count the number of times I've said the same thing about Kaiser.

Glad you found a workable alternative. We've had the same number for sixty years. It's so old we used to say it with letters.
