return of the puffball mushrooms

These were down by the railroad; where there were two last year, there are three now, plus a couple more a little ways away. Alledgedly edible, but No Thanks!




Actually, i'm not sure this is a puffball, it's shape is different, still pretty big.




am i the only one who has already has a tag for fungas?

Couldn't' help the pun. I think they are puffballs. My dad said that the oldtimers (ok we are talking folks around the year 1900 in this case) would use puffballs as an anti infective.

EXTERNALLY I should have specified! I don't know about eating, never heard that, but I'm not that knowledgeable about wild fungi.

Pun away! I read that they are edible at a certain phase but i wouldn't take that risk; i don't want to even touch them.
