What you are feasting your eyes on is a loaf of Boheimian Christmas Braid that i made on the holiday.  I checked many sources including my '1950's era Betty Crocker book and some online searches. All seem to agree that the traditional Boheimian Holiday bread is rich in eggs & butter with raisins & almonds inside, and, looks somthing like this. Betty, suggested pecans and cherries on top, the pecans at least, aren't authentic and i didn't want candied cherries, so i used dried cranberries. Does tradition matter? Would my ancestors recognize this?

I'll bet that tasted good! I better not show this to #1 daughter - she'll want some! - And she'd probably make some :) I'll bet it smelled good, too.
