Ticks and poison ivy is what i encounter every time i go out into the yard. I have had several ticks crawling on my clothes or found them where i changed or was sitting earlier. No bites yet.. It doesn't help that the abandoned house behind us has grass over a foot tall and growing. It's not just that the bugs are repusive, it's the chance of disease too.
The poison ivy is thriving and this is my fault. I've let the ground covers expand so there is less grass to mow and the ivy runs through the ground cover. I found an improved recipe for a homemade weed killer that is doing a good job.
If my children were small now, i dpon't know what i would do. I could probably scare them away from the ivy but what about the ticks? I wouldn't want to have to spray repellent on them.

Ticks are scary, super scary. That's a lot of them! I think all bugs must die, except maybe those big black bees that are so sweet and hard working. Life would be so incredibly much better without them. I'm seeing some around here that are ruining my sleep, at the moment.
What's the weed killer made of? Now that I have no lawns anymore I'm fighting some really noxious weeds, though luckily nothing in the poison-X family. We don't have poison ivy; we have poison oak, but it doesn't grow around here. I just saw one on YouTube, but it had salt, and I don't really want to salt my soil.

Two or three cups of vinegar
one cup salt '
and a little dish soap.
It's probably the mostly the salt, i tried vinegar with a little salt last year and it did some damage but nothing lasting. This concotion is pretty serious. I'm thinking of trying kerosene which sounds crazy but i can dip my hand in kerosene and not worry about altering my DNA the way i would with Roundup. There's boiling water which is tedious and a little tricky to walk out in the yard with. If you have a tea kettle and are sure of foot, you might try that.
