Several warm clear days are coming to an end; it's been showery but i have the door open at almost 3:00 AM. The past several nights have been exceptionally clear with the night sky sparkling with a large number of visible stars and planets. Even as the last light has faded the stars have been out putting on a nice show. Don't get mad at this because it has left our news cycle, are the fires still burning; i thought maybe the smoke has cleared or more likely gone somewhere else and that accounts for our clear skies. I don't know!

Don't worry-- it's long since left our news cycle as well, except for some red flag interludes around high wind events that luckily came to nothing. Many of the huge fires are still active but better weather means they can make some progress in getting them under control I guess. The terrible smoke has lifted; we still have some dips in air quality, but not down to purple, and it's hard to tell if it comes from smoke or from regular pollution. But we've had no real rain.

It's cold here! Down in the 40s at night.
