It's not just you and me.
My in-laws who we are trying to get to move closer because they can't live on their own, came up to look at an apartment in the area. Then when they left the took a wrong turn and instead of taking two hours to drive home, managed it in just under five. They insisted on driving themselves and this is what happens. Five years ago they moved from southern Georgia back to their hometown in Ohio. Now after looking at the apartment they are wondering why they didn't do this five years ago. So are we.

Granted, it will bring its own set of troubles but it will be less stress to visit them. With them two hours away, you start out late Saturday morning, get there about 1:00 stay three or four hours and you're not back home until after 6:00. She found them a place 20 minuets away; that way they aren't living in the evil city and it's a decent amount of space. They will never be happy, we know that.

I hope it makes it a lot easier on everyone. I know, long drives are the poison icing on the cake.

I hope so too; but you are right about the closeness because there is some lunacy involved here. My wife drove down straight from work on Friday night and when she got there her mother started in about how this was all a plot to put her away in a "crazy house" or something to that effect; right out of some 1940's melodrama. She went along Saturday and didn't lose her suspicions until they actually pulled into the apartment complex. So for me for past almost 30 years, this has always been at a distance.

I've heard of more that one person tricked out of their house in that way. It must be kind of terrifying.

Yeah, but that's not what's happening.

I know-- but it's hard to know for sure when you're on the receiving end... especially if you think you might deserve it.
