My mother's cat is becoming very protective of her. She follows mom down the hallway and hangs around by the door of any room she goes in. Yesterday I sat with the new hospice nurse and social worker while we covered some paperwork and the nurse examined mom. There is mom laying in bed and the two women in chairs near the bed. The normally timid cat (Anna) jumps onto the hospital bed and tries to find a comfortable spot by the bend in the mattress where mom's head is laying on her pillows. All the while she is trying to settle Anna is looking straight at the visitors. It wasn't until hours later that it dawned on me that she was putting herself between mom and the newcomers.
