Because you have to change the subject once in ahwhile.

Last night's low was -10. I think I've written about my inaccurate thermometer before; it's one of those cheap round units that you screw on outside but you can see through the window. Its temperature is often around 5 degrees higher than what is "official" because of warm air radiating from the house. A few nights ago it dropped to -10 which makes me wonder if it was -15. Last night it recorded -10, the same as the Weather Service at the airport, about 5 miles away. The weather apps never are as low as the official temp. Right now Weatherunderground, on my phone says -1 while the thermometer says -7. This is a cool spot with not much concrete and a lot of trees.

The past few nights have been remarkable. The moon seems turned up a few notches and the skies have been stunningly clear. The shadows of the trees and their individual branches are distinct against the snow. The trees and fields behind us are incredibly clear. If you've seen some of the night pictures on instagram of the fields, the only thing missing is that the camera messes up the exposure and the skies are really a dark royal blue, these past few nights.

As a bonus, a couple owls were calling back and forth in the woods last night.

I looked it up and we have been well below freezing since January 22 and the 10 day forecast shows nothing ahead, though the occasional day in the upper 20's is out there.

I've been seeing the snow and weather reports out of the corner of my eye all month, and yesterday YouTube offered me a Cleveland five-year-old giving a weather report. I'd link it, but they showed almost nothing of his shtick and a whole lot of newscasters blathering about it.

The moon is beautiful here too. I checked Instagram, the pictures are beautiful especially the night pictures with the branches.

Do you like owls? They're cool, but I'm kind of on the fence about them. I've seen them being real jerks around the eagles' nest I watch.

The cold seems absolutely brutal.

Not MY eagles--my eagles are extremely well-behaved and excellent parents, not hoodlums like those owls.
