The air is cleaner, but that's more a product of the winds changing direction. That's what brought the rain too. Prevailing winds had been out of the east for weeks; that's unusual and that's what brought the smoke form the fires in Canada.
Do you know exactly where/which fires were the biggest, most responsible? I've been looking at the fire and smoke map for quite awhile, and it seems to me there are innumerable fires across the north of Canada, mostly detected by satellites and not listed as incidents. Then a few larger incidents lower down, but not huge enough to cover the entire northeast with smoke???
You can enlarge the image, I looked; Montreal is about parallel to the northern tip of Michigan. This seems to cover where i am more than New york and it was not as bad here as New York.
Thanks-- so it was mostly in Quebec. I saw on the maps how bad your air quality was, but the maps of New York/New England were terrifyingly bad, not to mention the photographs.
