This image wrecks havoc with Mr. Jefferson's symmetry. The statue of Jefferson (which, surely, Jefferson would have objected to) is in the center of the steps, blocking most of the building. So you stand to the side for a crooked shot that makes the rotunda look oblong. Plus if i recall, you are just about standing in the street to include the whole dome.
