My mother's cat - Anna, came careening down the steps last night before I got home from work. I think she woke up and found she had lost much of her motor control. We took her to the vet in the morning and she called us a couple hours later; she said it was possible the cat had a nervous system infection, a clot or a stroke. The vet suggested complete blood work, several medications, x-rays to look at the heart and check for possbile broken bones and a spinal tap in the future if none of the other things work or show any clues.
So, i decieded to have them euthanize her, which is a really shitty end to the best companion my mother had in the last years of her life. The technition brought out a form from the state that asked if the cat had bitten anyone in the last 15 days and it turned out she had nipped #1wife sometime recently..10? days 15?..20? So now it was a rabies thing because the Anna's sickness is neurological. She had a vaccination a year ago, she never goes outside but this is my wife's health. I forgot to mention that i tried to give Anna water and she crawled away from it. So they have to cut the cat's head off and send it to the state and the body has to be creamated and if we want her creamted seperately it will cost an extra $70.00. That settled, let's put my late mother's cat to sleep.
Odds are almost 0 that she had rabies but you really can't take a chance with that. I feel hollow and defeated just like after my mother died. Is there a good way to go?

Really sorry. Poor thing. What a mess. I hope she's in Cat Heaven.

There are only less bad ways to go -- no good ways.

They put my little Racer down too-- my heart is broken.
