Not a great day yesterday, woke up two hours too early. Didn't go out and didn't speak with another human until my brother called late in the afternoon:
"A, eeh, I'm not sure what we are doing for Thanksgiving"
This is where i realize it's his annual "I'm not going to see our mother on Thanksgiving" call.
"We're (him, his wife and their 24 year old daughter) going to the zoo, every year it's free on Thanksgiving."
(yes he is jumbling it together and yes, this is why he doesn't see his mother on Thanksgiving, EVERY YEAR)" It's free, they have things to do and we like to go. After that, I don't know we may run to Toledo to go to the zoo there.."(presumably, because they have things to do).
So in reality, he does know what he is doing on Thanksgiving; it's all planned out. They are zoo people, it's good, their daughter, my niece, has always loved the parks. She went to an expensive school for four years to earn a degree where she works part time for around $12.00 / hr.
But this is likely mom's last Thanksgiving; and it's not as a visit requires much of an investment in time because, she can only manage 90 minutes to a couple hours before she is exhausted and needs to sleep. Bringing her home is out of the question. I plan to see her either in the afternoon and bring her a slice of pie or i'll sit with her while she has her few bites of dinner; i'm not being heroic, it doesn't take much time to see mom anymore.
