I hate to admit it but we had a really nice holiday; better than the past several years in fact. It's nice when children are older and 8:30 on December 25 is a good time for everyone to wake up. A little less drama to as the young'ns seem to be showing signs of adulthood. Not that we ever had screaming and shouting or anything like that; but more like #1son is handling the breakup of a year and half relationship in a way that doesn't cast a pall over everything. Even though they are 24 and 22, it seems that this is our first post teenage Christmas! But that's the end of an era isn't it? Certainly no more Hot Wheels sets under the tree but also the fervor is gone.

Edit: Also the fact that my daughter bought me a bottle of wine as a present then hid it in the basement for me to find.

Mom handled the day well. One thing i have to say about my mom, she is not picky about her food; anything on her plate is fair game. Not that we cook anything exotic; i think it's that Great Depression generation. I could put a McDonalds cheeseburger on her plate and she would rave about my home cooking skills.

The weather has finally caught up. It's about 13 at 2 AM, with a bitter wind.

http://www.ideastream.org/holiday/swingin Have i posted this before? It's on every year for a few weeks. I remember when over Thanksgiving the radio would play a couple holiday songs then you'd here pretty much nothing until a day or two before; then finally around dusk on the 24th, one by one nearly every station would switch over and play anywhere from 18 to 30 hours of holiday songs, then a few on New Year's eve and that was it for another 11 months. How special it was to hear Nat Cole sing The Christmas Song for the first time in a year on Christmas Eve, or only hear David Bowie and Bing Crosby on a rock and roll station. And never to hear the Grinch song anywhere but on the TV special. Ah, times change and leave us behind.
