Some weeks ago i almost drove into and, never came out of this chuck hole*. However, as i swerved, i noticed the bricks and came back and took a picture the next day. A true photographer has to put aside the "what do people think i'm doing in the middle of the road with a camera? sensation". I never quite get there, i'm self conscious; that's why my best shots are in the woods.

* Chuck holes, no one calls them chuck holes anymore; too unsophisticated? Now it's pot holes, i feel like 'pot holes' came from a New York consulting firm. There's no logic to pot hole, how did a pot make a hole? (Wood)chucks can make holes.

Mail Pouch Tobacco sign, Cleveland.

My brother and I were driving around the city today - before the snow storm hit. First stop was to look at the burnt out remains of the old Dan-Dee Potato Chip factory, where my mom worked her first job. I took a couple pictures; not much to see. Later on we were coming down a street and I spied this, i asked my brother to turn around so I could get a snap. We guess the sign could be 80 or more years old. Don't know for sure. Mail Pouch is more famous for it's barns. I'm tempted to paint one on the almost-a-barn. Ah, maybe that's why I painted it black

Follow your own path, march to a different drummer etc. Encouraged but it comes at a cost.

The homestead - c. 1883.

Got a little American Gothic going on here. My neighbor, who was born in this house 80 odd years ago, remembers "..corn growing up to the doorstep.."

Blue Moon at work, Berea Ohio, August 31, 2012.

I know i've published so many pictures from work. It is, to me at least, a photogenic spot.

And all the men and women merely players

Remember the poison ivy: http://beoj.livejournal.com/60441.html#cutid1 ?
It has grown, i've got some trailing up under a kitchen window too. Probably an iressponsible thing to do - a little bit Addams Family too.

Under the weed; one mistep and weeks of itching. I've learned to be aware of it and as soon as i make contact i run in and grab my bar of Fells-Naptha Soap and scrub away. It works! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fels-Naptha

Old Brick building, Wellington Ohio. July 2012.

Not a great picture, but a wonderful side of a building. How many different batches of bricks, how many times have a section of morter been re-pointed.?

a boy's life

At 17 my son has decided to clean out some of the squaler he has been living in these many years. For days junk has been coming down, flooding the living room. He brings it down for me to sort through; what is worth giving away, what is sentimental for us, what maybe should he save to give to his children - not much! We never throw away Lego, it just passes down to the next generation. This is box a cast offs; broken guns, Battle-Bots, strap-on headlight, that ear. Even though it's trash, there is my boys life summed. I have another crate that i think even more represenative of him that i am saving. But either one says the same.

"East Coast Custard" Parma Heights Ohio. Early 1970's? October 8, 2011.

We've been here before but i like this one and since i'm still camera-less i thought i look at my past glories. This was originaly as an Arby's but that closed 30? years ago. They have the best custard; usually i get a single scoop vanilla, because what is the point of chocolate custard? But in the fall they have pumpkin and i tried a butter pecan the other day.

Middleburg Hts. Ohio, "Spring, 1996".

Henry Fox Talbot, inventer of photography, once took a picture of a doorway with a broom in it; though there is no broom here this play of light and shadow was a homage to him.
